THE Regional Development Council (RDC)-Southern Mindanao is pushing the the proposed bridge connecting Davao City and Samal Island.

RDC-Southern Mindanao vice chair Nicasio Angelo Agustin, also the regional director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said: “The project is crucial for the industrial development of the Davao Region.”

The Island Garden City of Samal is more or less two kilometers away from Davao City. Presently, one must ride a ferry or boats to cross the Davao Gulf. Indeed, if one just want to visit the pristine white beaches and relax, riding a ferry might be one of the highlights of the experience, however, for people doing business, this means slow and costly transportation. With the proposed bridge being pressed forward, both cities can expect a boost in their economic and development progress.

Agustin also said that the Samal bridge is “critical to spur development in the Island Garden City of Samal, and will serve as the link to the other growth centers in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental through the proposed roll-on/roll-off port facilities.”
