It’s more than a year ago when I posted about Robinsons Cybergate, which was then under construction. The mall has finally opened sometime in May 2009. Last summer, we took the chance to visit the actual place and to my surprise, it was smaller than I thought. Some of the room-spaces on the second floor were still empty. However, the supermarket and a hardware have been opened and serving the needs of the people of Davao. There were cafés, restaurants, spa and offices in the building so it didn’t look that empty though. But I did like the quiet and not so crowded ambiance of the place. Here’s Robinsons Cybergate Davao.

In all the places to shop here in Davao City, there’s no place quite like Aldevinco. This is the place to visit for all ethnic handmade products.

For more than 40 years, Aldevinco has become a landmark of the city. It showcases the rich culture and heritage of Mindanao through the abundant array of Batik products like bags, dusters, slippers, table cloths, textiles and indigenous musical instruments.

The place actually is a mini-mall with plenty of small stalls. Access is easy because it’s located at the heart of the city along C.M. Recto Avenue. The shopkeepers are friendly and very accomodating and if you are skilled in haggling, you can save lots of shopping money.

Everytime a friend from Manila comes here in Davao for whatever reason, I usually take them here and they’ll just be thrilled at the unique and beautiful handicrafts and the low prices.

Big time investors from the capital city have finally found a landmark for another beneficial project to boost Davao City at large. It’s the Robinsons Mall that’s going to be up soon in Bajada district, precisely near the Water District. As you can see, the construction is now going on and the countdown begins until its proposed operation starts.

The proposed layout of Robinsons Davao | Photo by: Eric

The people of Davao are more than pleased to welcome the presence of the mall and it’s only a matter of time going on all the malls in the city. Furthermore, the mall developer will not only finalize the mall project but it will be preceded by the construction of Robinsons housing projects as well. The proposed sites will be at the Diversion Road in Buhangin with two major projects and one in Lanang (in front of Lanang Golf & Country Club).

This is good news to all Dabawenyos!

The application of the Floirendo property for reclassification has finally been approved, thus a go signal to pave the way for the construction of the Ayala Mall. The 55,000 sq m project is set to stand along J.P. Laurel Avenue in Bajada district, in front of Redemptorist Church.

The approval was concluded two days ago by the Davao City Council in a unanimous vote, and the 25 councilors present believed the project would land a job for many Dabawenyos. It was assured that construction will start this year or early next year.

Personally, I am happy that the Mayor and the Davao City Council welcome this kind of project to Davao City. This is not only to boost the city as a haven for investment but for economic growth as well. I can cite that Bajada is quite perfect for the project as it is accessible to all residents from different directions.

The project will not only consist of malls but offices, hotel, call center facilities and condominium as well. I can’t wait to see this project stand in 2010. I wish they could finish it earlier.
